Helping Your Child with Homework

Like a lot of things, homework too has become much more demanding and complex than when we ourselves were kids. For teachers as well as for parents, the expectations are higher, and parents need to face additional challenges of juggling kids’ sports schedules, mastering new curriculum, and controlling smartphone/TV time/iPad. Despite there are studies that suggests homework doesn’t benefit the grade-schoolers, it is here to stay. Fortunately, you don’t really have to be as involved in your kid’s homework. In fact, parents shouldn’t be too involved. The very purpose of homework is to allow kids to become independent learners.

While you can’t just leave your kid in their room, suggests the teacher at the schools in Dahisar, expecting them to complete their homework correctly, there are a few tactics that parents could use to make this process less painful for kids as well as parents.

Let Your Kid Create a Routine

Best thing that parents can do to empower their kids is letting them have a say in how, where, and when they would like to complete their homework/assignment. Coordinate with your child to prepare a routine, one that would be comfortable for both you and your child. Such a routine could be created right from the time when your child is at playgroup in Dahisar or at a preschool.

Be Present to Monitor (Not to Correct)

Through homework, teachers are able to identify how much each student has absorbed in class. Therefore, homework shouldn’t be turned into assignment. You may be with your kids to monitor while they are doing homework, but keep in mind that you aren’t required and shouldn’t correct their mistakes. Let them make mistakes. Also, don’t let them drag on with homework indefinitely; teach them time management.
